(Thurs 1st Mar - Sat 3rd Mar)
New York. 1950s. The heat is on. Nathan Detroit has one day to get a thousand bucks together to secure a location for his illegal ‘floating’ dice game, before Big Jule from Chicago starts to get nasty with his revolver. Sky Masterson (the highest-stakes player there is) has just flown in from Nevada and is looking for some unusual gambling action. Sarah Brown’s Save-a-soul mission is in danger of being closed down if she can’t rustle up some repentant sinners to save, and Nathan’s 14-year fiancée Adelaide is sickening under a strange ‘psychological’ disorder, and will stop at nothing to finally become ‘Mrs Detroit’. The only way these four characters will be able to keep the love of their lives is by each taking one massive gamble against all odds…
This vibrant revival of the classic Broadway musical is a collaboration between over 100 talented students from all across the university, who are involved with every aspect of the production from singing to lighting design. Directed by the guy who brought ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ to the UCLU Garage Theatre Workshop last year (winner of Best Garage Production of 2010 – 2011), this promises to be a colourful re-imagining of Frank Loesser’s timeless work. This family-friendly production features the iconic numbers of ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘Luck be a Lady’, ‘If I were a bell’ and of course the infamous ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat. With a live big band, quirky costumes, full cast choreography and an innovative set including two 8-foot-high moveable ‘dice’, you should catch this show while you get the chance!
